Who We Are

 

RCO Tourism is a small company, passionate about the tourism industry in the NWT. RCO Tourism has extensive knowledge of tourism attractions, product and services currently offered, and has established key contacts and excellent working relationships in the local, regional, national and international marketplaces. Ron Ostrom, managing director, was Marketing Director for NWT Tourism for ten years (2006 – 2016) and he is well known and well respected in the tourism industry. He has built a reputation as a tourism marketing expert within the NWT, Canada and in the overseas markets that NWT Tourism has been actively involved in. Ron has gained a reputation for being dedicated, results orientated, passionate about the tourism industry, and enjoyable to work with.

Ron Ostrom held the role of Marketing Director for NWT Tourism for ten years (2006 – 2016), and he is well known and respected in the tourism industry.   • Bachelor of Tourism Management from Malaspina University-College (now known as Vancouver Island University)

Work Experience

  • Marketing Director for NWT Tourism 2006 – 2016
    • Spearheaded the development and execution of the association’s annual marketing plan
    •  Coordinated all domestic and international marketing activities including establishing and managing the contracts for NWT Tourism’s service providers in Germany, Japan, China, South Korea and Australia
    • Developed travel trade programs and worked extensively with the travel trade. Key activities included representing NWT Tourism at various national and international trade shows, producing marketing collateral targeted at the travel trade, developing positive working relationships with the travel trade in companies big and small, and coordinating Familiarization (FAM) tours to showcase the export ready tourism products in the NWT
    • Developed and oversaw the coordination of the travel media program which resulted in valuable editorial content and extended the reach of marketing activities for the NWT as a travel destination.
    • Developed a comprehensive system for recording, tracking and managing the association’s annual $3.2 million budget.
    • Acquired an additional $5 million dollars for the association through successful CanNor, ITI Product Diversification Fund and Seed funding applications
    • Developed positive working relationships with key partners including local tourism operators, the Government of the NWT, CanNor, First Nation’s communities, Destination Canada (DC) and other Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs).
    • Successfully coordinated and delivered a variety of tourism training workshops
    • Took a leading role in developing tourism products including the one-way RV rental packages and the development of joint travel itineraries between NWT Tourism and Travel Alberta

 

Prior to working for NWT Tourism, Ron worked in tourism marketing in British Columbia, Newfoundland and Ontario.
